What is Gigabit Off-Road

Mobile users aren't lacking for options when it comes to racing games built for their devices, but Gigabit Off-Road fills a gap in the market by offering one of the most realistic and fully featured monster truck racing games around. If you're looking for a racing game that eschews traditional race tracks and high end sports cars in favor of wide open terrains and off-roading vehicles, this game could be what you're looking for.

The first thing you'll notice about this game is that it looks good. While it's nowhere near the ridiculous standards set by console and PC games, and it can't quite match the level of graphical fidelity reached by mobile games with guided experiences, Gigabit Off-Road offers a pretty impressive aesthetic for a game that takes a more open world approach to racing. The truck designs are crisp and clean, and the environmental assets are strong, although the lack of variety and the sheer size of the maps means that they can become somewhat repetitive the more you race.

But what's more impressive than the graphical quality is the sheer scale of the game. For a mobile title, the track maps are positively huge. Players don't have to worry about being locked in to the sort of limited paths they'd find in more traditional racing games, and success is just as likely come from a willingness to explore as it is to be rewarded to the player with the fastest reflexes. Luckily, the game comes supported by a dedicated mini map that helps you realize where you are even when you go far off the beaten trail. While multiplayer isn't yet available, the developers promise it in the future, and the AI competitors can actually hold their own. Even so, the single player experience has plenty to offer. Each map comes with hundreds of objectives and challenges to complete.

The other major component of your success is the ability to customize your garage of vehicles, and it could practically constitute a game in its own right. You have practically limitless range to build the truck of your dreams. Hundreds of different parts and accessories are available, and you have control over everything from the tires to the chassis to the suspension. You aren't merely limited to parts either. You can fine tune performance to create tightly tweaked results for your vehicle, and there are a number of purely cosmetic options available to create a truck that reflects your personality.

"Expansive" is the best word to describe Gigabit Off-Road. With huge maps, tons of hidden secrets, and hundreds of vehicles, players could hypothetically keep racing forever. And the developer's commitment to keep updating the game with new content means that there should be new things to explore for a long time to come.

Pros:

  • Truly huge maps that make you feel like part of a living world and provide more flexibility in how you race
  • A ton of customization options that accurately reflect the art of custom truck building

Cons:

  • Despite their size, maps can sometimes feel generic
  • No multiplayer options despite the promise of more modes to come
